Sempai Kristian Mahinay
Rank: Yondan (4th Degree Black Belt)
“Train what is possible, protect what is impossible”
Kristian Mahinay, at the age of 27, began his training in 2010 during the beginning of May. After a few short years of training, he became an assistant instructor and in early 2012, after obtaining the rank of Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt), he began actively teaching his own classes.
He teaches both junior and senior ranking children’s classes, as well as adult class. He coaches for competitive sparring and tends to teach very high energy classes that bridge the gap between traditional karate, self defense, and tournament sparring.
A little from Kristian Mahinay:
“I’m 37 years old. Just celebrated my 10 year anniversary in Uechi-Ryu Karate. I am married to a beautiful and patient woman. We have a beautiful daughter, whom I’d like to teach one day. I train karate because it’s therapeutic and it makes me feel powerful as a person. Karate has become my Niche. I didn’t know exactly what I was really good at and karate opened up so many opportunities for me. It made me patient and humble in all aspects of my life.
I love to teach because it’s very rewarding. To be able to make an impact in someone’s life, to be able to see their growth and success, is very gratifying. Knowing that you were a part of that is why I do what I do. I love the company and how we all share the same drive and passion for karate.”
Finally, Kristian Mahinay says that the hardest part of karate is Maintaining what you have worked for and coming to know and work with your own limitations. That is why we never stop training.
A note from the admin:
Kristian Mahinay has done a wonderful job in linking our previous generation of black belts to the new, younger generation of students. His classes are often the best workouts of the week. He incorporates sparring technique in everything he does.
