Sempai Korey Sniezek

Rank: Shodan (1st Degree)

“Do you know what that means? More Push-ups.”

Korey has been a dedicated Karate-ka since 2016, prior to that, he has had experience in various other martial arts as well as practical self defense. Currently, he is a volunteer instructor with Shoken School of Karate. He will happily teach anyone who asks. People often accuse Korey of overthinking things in class. Recently he has taken up Kobudo, the weapons martial art taught in house by Sensei Scott Macphee.

Outside of Karate, Korey Sniezek holds a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technologies from NAIT and is on his way to earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from MacEwan University, and he credits his success from the work ethic and discipline learned at Shoken School of Karate. Korey makes the trip to the Dojo from Leduc Alberta. This should show you how important Shoken is to him, and should encourage you to come down and try a class right now. He also promises that you wont have to do so may push-ups… at first.

Finally, Korey has a passion for science. This means that he will gladly talk nerd with anyone who is willing to listen, as long as it isn’t during training.
It has been pointed out that his biggest weakness is to ask him a question during sparring, because he will eagerly switch gears and answer!

A little from Korey: “When I was young, I got into a lot of fights. I had no business being in most of these fights. However, I did stick up for myself, and others, as much as I could. I am not proud of the temper that I had when I was younger. Nor am I proud of the frustration and anger that I had for many years towards myself. I encourage people to practice martial arts because it teaches them how to grow by challenging their flaws in a constructive manner. There is no greater purpose than self improvement. Karate made me a better martial artist as well as a better person. I will be better tomorrow than I am today, and that is the best I can ask for. It is everything.”
